 Since the launch of the International Parliamentarians in London,
thousands of West Papuans have been staging regular demonstrations in
West Papua calling for their freedom and for the international
community to act. Indonesia's response has been to arrest Papuan
students and activists who express their support for the launch of
international parliamentarians for West Papua which took place in
London on the 15th of October 2008. Here the Link to Fotos
Buchtar Tabuni, a human right activist and a prominent student leader
who organised a peaceful demo and march on the 16th of October 2008 in
support of the launch of International parliamentarians for West Papua
in London has been the target of Indonesian police and are now in the
police custody. Buchtar’s leadership in supporting the International
Parliamentarians for West Papua is considered a subversive act and he
can face 7 years to a life sentence in Indonesian prison.
